DARLINGHURST TERRACE COURTYARD

COLOURED COURTYARD : EXPANDED INTERIOR

The wonderful thing about the coloured courtyard walls is how they are seen from inside the house, and how they produce interesting views and colour effects within the house. The colour shines and spills, changing with weather and season.

It has the effect of making the interior of the house feel larger, even whilst making the site boundary explicit. It’s a curious reversal of what you may expect.

“The small courtyard is an oasis, a block from Taylor Square, which gives us a lot of enjoyment. Going into the renovation it was not something we had planned but it became a feature of the outcome and really enhanced all the other aspects of the renovation.

Lymesmith was recommended to us late in the building process to add colour and cohesion to the project. We wanted to enhance the 'walled garden' effect and to provide a backdrop to the many plants that we have that are predominantly shades of green.

We had indicated in conversations with Sonia that we liked bold colours, which she used with great flair after consulting with us. This provided a strong garden statement, a great backdrop to the greenery and a contrast to the neutrality of the colours used internally.

We have no hesitation in recommending Lymesmith.”
