LIMITED EDITION PRINT RELEASE
Between Mountains Diptych
Coinciding with CRAFT + DESIGN FESTIVAL CANBERRA 2026, purchase a limited edition release of ‘Between Mountains’, the artwork I created for Canberra’s largest and most secret mural project.
THERE ARE ONLY TEN signed DIPTYCH prints AVAILABLE
This high quality gicleé print is a reproduction of my original hand-painted design for a 7 storey high mural, located in Braddon, ACT.
BETWEEN MOUNTAINS mural brings the colour atmosphere of Black Mountain and Mt Ainslie into the heart of the Cento apartment building. It’s a reminder of place and an orientation device that is architectural in scale and intent.
Each side of the mural contains a grid of 100 rectangles, each large enough to frame a human being. The mural grid slides over the 7-storey lightwell, not aligned floor to floor, but complementary and elegant in proportion. 100 different colours are used, a kind of shorthand to the endless complexity of colour in nature that I find so deeply inspiring and energising.
CANBERRA’S UNIQUE LANDSCAPE CHARACTER RENDERED WITH CARE, ‘Between Mountains’
There are just 10 full-size reproductions of the original painted artwork design available (pictured on the right). Design notations in pencil (left-hand side) describe the artwork design principles.
Printed on archival handmade warm white paper.
Print Dimensions: mm x mm

the CENTO building in context
The building is positioned between Galambary (Black Mountain) and Nadya Ngambri (Mt Ainslie). Hence the name of, and the inspiration for, this work of two halves: Between Mountains.
On the right, colours collected on southern slope of Galambary; on the left, colours reflecting the western face of Mt Ainslie. The work positions and orients the building in its context, welcoming residents home to country.
Watch the video to get a visual sense of this position and the natural context underpinning this artwork. Learn more about the project >
“The complexion of a person, or of a place, is its distinctive quality, constituted of inner life-warmth and perceived emergent or radiant colour: of splendour. Colour is not superficial; it is a mark or sign of what carries it, or what causes it to emanate or flow out, from an inner constitution, through the veil that conceals it. Colour is a sign of the times, a signal of place, a signature of character.”
- Michael Tawa, reflecting on the artwork
